Owl Monitoring Survey Certification Program

for Minnesota and Wisconsin

Step 1. You must Register/Login before taking the Instructions Quiz or the Audio Test.

Step 2. The Instructions Quiz must be passed before proceeding to the Audio Test.

Step 3. There are 10 owls on the Audio Test to identify: Barn, Barred, Boreal, Eastern Screech, Great Horned, Great Gray, Long-eared, Northern Hawk, Northern Saw-whet, and Short-eared.

Study owl calls from a birding CD or online birding guide (such as Cornell Lab of Ornithology) before taking the Audio Test. Opening another browser window after having started the Audio Test can cause the Audio Test to lock up or close prematurely.

The audio clips take time to load. If users with dial-up find they cannot get all the clips to load, they should take the test elsewhere (library, internet cafe). Your computer browser must have JavaScript enabled for the Audio Test to load properly.

Media player compatibility: You must have Windows Media Player, QuickTime or RealPlayer set as the default player for MP3 files. If you click on the Audio Test button and even after a few minutes, no audio clips appear, you do not have one of the above music players on your computer set to play MP3 files.

Step 4. Logout to prevent others from accessing the Owl Monitoring Survey Certification Program under your UserID.
